Hydration isn't just applying conditioner...

Hydrated Curls Start with Water — Not Just Conditioner 🌿

Let’s get one thing clear — true hydration doesn’t come from slathering on handfuls of conditioner. Real hydration starts with water. 💧

But here’s the catch: water alone evaporates quickly, especially in our dry, Aussie climate (WA, we see you 🥵).

That’s why we need the right conditioning formulas to lock in moisture and create soft, healthy curls — not brittle, frizzy strands.

As a curly hairdresser, I see it all the time: curls crying out for hydration because the shampoo is doing more harm than good. If your cleanser is packed with stripping sulphates, no amount of conditioner can undo the damage. You're washing out the very thing your hair needs most.

Then there’s silicone. Ingredients like Dimethicone or anything ending in ‘-cone’ create a plastic-like coating over the hair. This can offer protection, but when combined with a harsh sulphate shampoo, you can end up with dry, frizzy hair that feels coated but not truly nourished.

💡 Starting Your Curly Hair Journey?

Try removing both sulphates and silicones to give your hair a clean slate. You might be surprised how quickly your natural oils rebalance, and how curls begin to form more freely with consistent, gentle care.

When you use hydrating formulas that actually penetrate the hair shaft, you plump the hair from within — rather than layering up on the surface. And that’s when the magic happens… curls start thriving. Hair starts growing. You begin to notice more bounce, less breakage, and a curl pattern that finally feels like you.

Curl formation is all about balance:

✨ Water plumps the curl.
✨ Emollients/conditioners hold it in.
✨ Then you choose your styling hold — whether that’s soft and free-flowing or defined and controlled.
