My Curly Hairdresser Story

It was never my intention to become a curly hair specialist.

When I emigrated to Australia 10 years ago, I arrived as a freelance film hair stylist and complementary health practitioner — drawn here by a deep desire to live more harmoniously with the natural world. Australia, the home of permaculture, felt like the perfect place to explore that path.

Those roots still run deep, but what I didn’t expect was to tumble headfirst into the curl revolution. A space where embracing natural beauty, authentic texture, and gentle, natural products felt not only fun — but totally aligned with my values.

When people ask, “How did you get into curly hairdressing?” — especially with my own wavy… OK, OK, straight hair! — it’s a fair question. I’m not your typical curl expert on the surface. But it was Neel from Loves Curls who introduced me to his curly planet, and the rest is history.

Back then, there wasn’t much curly hair support around. I remember the buzz in Fitzroy, Melbourne — people would travel from all over just to have their curls understood. It was wild, creative, and soul-affirming.

Training at Deva Curl in NYC was another unexpected chapter — a beautiful, immersive dive into curl artistry that sparked something lasting in me.

And now? I’m loving life as a curl-friendly hairdresser in Fremantle. Still fairly new on the WA scene, I’m meeting the most incredible humans and finding joy in helping others embrace their natural texture.

Being a Perth curly hairdresser wasn’t part of the original plan — but I’m so glad the path unfolded the way it did 💫
